Disney Essays - Walt Disney Parks And Resorts, Walt Disney World

Disney World Disney World is viewed as a counterfeit, modified condition according to Susan Willis, a Duke University English educator (84). To her, the act of delight appears as disastrous as the finish of humankind. I differ and accept that there is nothing amiss with beguilement. In the expressions of Aristotle, Yet to interest oneself...seems right, for diversion is a kind of unwinding, and we need unwinding in light of the fact that we can't work consistently (Cahn, 124). Disney World offers settings for unwinding and delight. It tailors the guest's experience through amusement stops, for example, MGM Studios, Epcot Center, and The Magic Realm. These parks each present a remarkable diversion experience that pulls in youngsters and grown-ups the same. Ms. Willis, Disney World might be a produced circle of imagination yet it gives diversion and entertainment that is both valuable and fundamental for individuals. At the point when I at last discovered the round, disproportional, dark ears of Mickey Mouse, we shook hands and I was defeat by a sentiment of warmth and happiness. I had meandered the Magic Kingdom all day looking for my preferred characters and I unexpectedly wound up inclining my neck upward to see Mickey's lasting grin gazing joyfully down at me. Afterward that day, the proclaimed motorcade along Main Street U.S.A. started with surprising excellence and vitality. The amazing hues and overwhelming buoys were without a doubt engaging each kid's creative mind. Characters seen before as it were on TV were changed into three-dimensional life. Through Disney's diversion, dream became reality. Diversion responds into training at Disney World, explicitly at MGM Studios and Epcot Center. A visit through the back loads of MGM drives the engaged to genuine studios where the Nickolodeon channel films a couple of its famous game shows. Near to lie real movement labs where happy voyagers get a brief look at Disney's craftsmen dexterously weaving through the liveliness procedure. Epcot Center, with its shopping center of global nations, permits guests to find out about the way of life of a remote nation through walkway appears, claim to fame shops, and mixed eateries. The way of life of every nation is shown with a high level of genuineness, as the workers are locals of their separate nations. As Disney World energizes courageous guests with its heart beating rides, different guests can commit their time to unwinding. With a decision of various retreats, visitors of Disney World can take a vacation day from the amusement parks while being adequately engaged. Disney's extravagant hotels include title greens, tennis courts, pools, and live shows. As travelers unwind, they can likewise investigate different exercises at their relaxation. An expanding number of visitors rush to Disney World every year to be entertained. The treatment and diversion they are uncovered to is top notch. Disney World's beneficial amusement is shown through its numerous attractions. It is obvious that dream, learning, and unwinding play significant jobs in the appeal of Disney World. People will consistently require amusement since play and movement have their cutoff points. There lies a harmony between movement and delight. I trust Disney World has prevailing in its journey to make the last a gainful piece of individuals' lives. Book reference Cahn, Steven M. Appreciation, Escape, and Resurrection - Literature Essay Samples

In literature, what does it mean for somebody to fly? Ovids Metamorphoses, chronicles of Greco-Roman mythology dating over 2000 years ago, depicts the failure of flight through the fates of Icarus and Phaeton, victims of hubris. Written by Toni Morrison and published in 1977, Song of Solomon opens and ends with the image of attempted flight. An array of paradoxical connotations emerges from this image such as triumph and failure, heroism and cowardice, and life and death. One can justify those dichotomies as a direct result to Morrisons decision to leave the reasoning behind Robert Smith and Milkmans leap into the air open to interpretation. Although it is unclear as to why Smith and Milkman attempt to fly, the readers discover the deterrent of flight through Milkman and Guitars observation and interlocution about the grounded, ostentatious peacock. The conclusion is the shit weighs you down (179). To realize what it means to fly in this novel, this shit must be defined, as w ell. In Song of Solomon, images of flight reflect elements of past, present, and future: appreciation of ones origin, escape from societal domestication, and resurrection of the human spirit.Whether it be a bird or plane, anything that can soar in the air must have its origin from the ground. Hence, before one can fly, one must be rooted. From the moment Milkman realizes that humans cannot fly, he detaches himself from the community as a consequence of this disheartening recognition. Although he befriends Guitar Bains, meets his enchanted aunt Pilate, and has coition with his cousin Hagar, Milkman is still aloof, for his desire to fly compels him to enervate and eventually abandon these human connections on the ground. When the Dead familys Packard rolls sedately through the city on Sunday afternoons, Milkman feels troubled because his sight is restricted to what he can see out of the rear window, illustrating Milkmans tragic flaw of depreciating the past in an attempt to catc h a glimpse of what will pass. To watch the passing scenery he kneels on the seat, but riding backward made him uneasy. It was like flying blind, and not knowing where he was going just where he had been troubled him (32). The past should be ones cushion, not discomfort. In a dream, Pilate sees her father and her father tells her, You just cant fly on off and leave a body (147). Jakes admonition suggests that one can only fly once all earthly affairs are resolved, for Pilate still has not interred the bones that she had been carrying for all those years. And only after Pilate buries her fathers bones on Solomons Leap can Pilate fly. Milkmans odyssey to ascertain the origins of his name and family meets opposition with his conflicting desire to remain ignorant, for in ignorance he finds a superficial happiness and security. When Milkman is in the airplane for the first time in his life, the feeling of freedom he finds in the air is only a pale illusion, for Milkman still thinks freedom can be found only outside of reality and apart from his past. Milkman cannot fly without embracing his past as the air underneath his wings.Raised by a man who talks black, lives white and thinks green, Milkman cannot see beyond the money, the house, and the Packard, for materialism and vanity is the shit that weighs him down from flying. For Milkman to truly fly, he must relinquish all that corrupts ones mind to disregard the values of identity and culture and instead embrace humanity. The peacock serves as the icon of societal domestication. Only once the peacock releases the heavy, ornate feathers on its tail will the peacock be able to soar freely without constraint. While belittling Pilate through his anecdote about the baby snake that eventually ate its caretaker, Macon Dead also teaches Milkman the one important thing youll ever need to know: Own things (55). Macon Dead was not born into wealth, so he had to work with just ambition to reach the pinnacle of the black hierarchy; however, Milkman was born into wealth and took it for granted, which is even worse. Society corrupted Macon Deads mind to such an extent that Macon Dead believes money is freedom. The only real freedom there is (163). Milkman adopts this principle, when he writes the word gratitude and includes money in a breakup letter to Hagar so that he can be liberated from Hagars love. Money is not freedom or a liberator, especially in opposition to love. The laws of man may revolve around money but the statute of the skies does not acknowledge the value of materialism. As Milkmans journey develops and the layers of his family history begin to peel away, Milkmans money and possessions quickly become useless, for the fortune is not gold but rather the past and its people. Without ever leaving the ground she could fly because Pilate realized that no earthly possession held any value in her heart, which the reader learns through Pilates disregard for her hair and s ocial conventions (336). Milkman cannot fly until he strips off the weight of materialism and vanity on his back.Although Robert Smith and Milkman leap into the air with no evidence of success, Pilate, even after her death, soars via the birds carrying her name in the air, which insinuates a spiritual resurrection. Death is not the end of the cycle for those whose spirits were pure. Resembling Christs birth, life, and death, Pilate enters the world through her dead mothers womb unaided, carries the bones of her father as society condemns her a pariah, and dies with love as her last words for the sins of Milkman and Guitars fatal ambition toward wealth. Yet she flies. Milkman regards Pilates death as a graceful flight of freedom: Now he knew why he loved her so. Without ever leaving the ground, she could fly (336). Not only does Pilate resemble the life cycle of Christ, but she is an example of a human that came from the earth, for she is born without a bellybutton, eats what she grows, and is aware of her origins, which all contrast with Macon Dead, a man of society rather than earth. Robert Smiths letter about his scheduled flight from Mercy to Lake Superior bears resemblance to Christs journey. His departure from Mercy connotes that Smith no longer wanted to be at the mercy of society, so he flew to Lake Superior, the symbol of haven or even heaven. Convicted for claiming to be the Son of God, Christ did not receive clemency from the throng of Jewish people and eventually was crucified, but He did rise from the dead and ascended to heaven. Hence, flight can be perceived as resurrection. After Guitar murders Pilate, Milkman realizes that only in death will Milkman be able to rise from the dead and fly like Solomon and Pilate, so he asks Guitar, You want my life? You need it? Here (337). He leaps off the cliff. Milkman realizes that if you surrendered to the air, you could ride it (337). Pilates rooted flight arises out of her true knowledge and recognition of the entangled feelings of love, animosity, faith, and anguish that define the existence of herself and her people; embracing the contradictions of humanity allows Pilate to live and die in joyful freedom. Seeking this freedom, Milkman takes flight at last.If one attempts to fly solo without human connections, without knowledge of the past, and without true love, then not only is that one capable of killing others but also ones identity and culture. In order for Milkman to see the future, he must recognize, recollect, and reconcile himself to the past. Staring death, via Guitar, in its catlike eyes, Milkman gives everything for love, knowing that love is not a burden or oppression but freedom. Although the final image of flight in Song of Solomon lacks a definitive conclusion, one must not mettle with the question of whether he lives or dies, but rather whether he dies or flies.

Euphemisms for Death

Euphemism is especially frequent, says linguist John Algeo, when we must come face to face with the less happy facts of our existence. Here we consider some of the verbal tranquilizers employed to avoid dealing head-on with death. Euphemisms for Death Despite what you may have heard, people rarely die in hospitals. Unfortunately, some patients do expire there. And according to hospital records, others experience therapeutic misadventures or negative patient-care outcomes. However, such mishaps cant be nearly as disappointing as the patient who has failed to fulfill his wellness potential. Most of us, I imagine, would rather die than let down the side in this fashion. Well, perhaps not die exactly. We might be willing to pass on, like dinner guests who take a pass on dessert. Or depart, as we should after a night out. (Theyre no longer with us, our hosts will say.) Unless, of course, weve had a bit too much to drink, and then we might just end up lost or asleep. But perish the thought. In the article Communication About Death and Dying, Albert Lee Strickland and Lynne Ann DeSpelder describe how one hospital worker tiptoed around the forbidden word. One day, as a medical team was examining a patient, an intern came to the door with information about another patients death. Knowing that the word death was taboo and finding no ready substitute, the intern stood in the doorway and announced, Guess whos not going to shop at Wal-Mart anymore. Soon, this phrase became the standard way for staff members to convey the news that a patient had died.Dying, Death, and Bereavement, ed. by Inge Corless et al. Springer, 2003 Because strong taboos surround the subject of death in our culture, countless synonyms for dying have evolved over the years. Some of those synonyms, such as the gentler terms suggested above, are regarded as euphemisms. They serve as verbal tranquilizers to help us avoid dealing head-on with harsh realities. Our reasons for using euphemisms are varied. We may be motivated by kindness--or at least politeness. For example, when speaking of the deceased at a funeral service, a minister is far more likely to say called home than bit the dust. And to most of us, resting in peace sounds more comforting than taking a dirt nap. Note that the opposite of a euphemism is a dysphemism, a harsher or more offensive way of saying something. But euphemisms arent always employed with such solicitude. A substantive negative outcome reported at a hospital may reflect a bureaucratic effort to disguise an interns blunder. Likewise, in wartime, a government spokesperson may refer abstractly to collateral damage rather than announce more candidly that civilians have been killed. Euphemisms, Death, and Mortality Euphemisms serve as reminders that communication is (among other things) an ethical activity. Strickland and DeSpelder elaborate on this point: Listening carefully to how language is used provides information about the speakers attitudes, beliefs, and emotional state. Becoming aware of the metaphors, euphemisms, and other linguistic devices that people use when talking about dying and death allows for greater appreciation of the wide range of attitudes toward death and promotes flexibility in communication. Theres no doubt that euphemisms contribute to the richness of language. Used thoughtfully, they can help us avoid hurting peoples feelings. When used cynically, euphemisms can create a haze of deceptions, a layer of lies. And this is likely to remain true long after weve bought the farm, cashed in our chips, given up the ghost, and, as now, reached the end of the line.

The Policies of My Way Essay Example For Students

The Policies of My Way Essay Unlike the United States, with its generalissimo politics-Washington, Jackson, Grant, Eisehower- the martial arts have been conspicuously absent from Canadian politics. But there in one exception: in 1968 Pierre Elliot Trudeau became the first Canadian leader to bring the gunslinger-Lone Ranger ethos to Canadian politics. Trudeau introduced to Canada the refined art of single combat; it was the politics of Doing It My Way-the politics of going my way or being left behind. Single-combat confrontation implied much mor than the loner or renegade in power, and far far less than the shaman black tricks of Mackenzie King. Trudeau was always far more the solo Philosopher King engaged in intellectual trial by combat than the Magus Merlin conjuring up solutions by puffs of smoke, sleight of hand or divine intervention. Ouijaboard politics was the occult domain of Mackenzie King, a man virtually devoid of policy, a political palm reader forever checking the whims and moods of his powerful baro nial-Ralston Howe, St. Laurent-and sometimes Byronian colleagues to see how best he could placate them, or calm them, or Heap his beatitudes upon them. Trudeau, from day one , was always more samurai than shaman. Even in his pre-leadership days, Trudeaus love of trial by combat was predominant. Mackenzie King would have never touched the unholy trinity of divorce, abortion and homosexuality: each one of these issues is a sleeping dog best left to lie; each could only infuriate conservative Canada from coast to coast. Since King dared not touch them seriatim he certainly would not have touched them together-in an omnibus bill. This, Trudeau did joyously. The myths-makers have it at this was Trudeaus first deliberated joust, the kingship being the final prize. But Trudeau had no leadership aspirations at the time; all that he had, still has, was the love of combat for the sake of combat and religious scruples be damned. Trudeau the Catholic zealot tackle divorce, abortion and homosexuality active Prime Minister in this countrys history, liberated the homosexual practitioners of black acts totally abhorrent to him; ironically, in the p rocess, Trudeau gave irrational Canada a pretext for branding him a homosexual too. P.E.T. has always hated the consensus building of Mackenzie King; even the populist following of a Diefenbaker was an anathema to Trudeau. The single-combat warrior doing it my way is always alone; he leads the people but is not of them; like the prophet he wanders either in dessert or lush green pastures and often, like the prophet, he watches his people march into the Promised Land without him. For Trudeau, being alone is to be free; victory is a consequence of solitude; companionship an act of weakness, cronyism even wise. It is ironic that Trudeau, a devout Jansenist Roman Catholic, emotionally and philosophically opposed to both divorce and abortion, should grant Canadians greatly expanded divorce rights and their first right to legale abortion. Trudeau took the unholy trinity then disturbing the bedrooms of the nation because all three were trial combat, all three required one strong man to push them through. In this minefield Canadas political loner had walked alone and apparently loved it. Canadas other solo flyer, John Diefenbaker, may or may not have been a renegade in power, but the input his holitics received from Senate cronies and Kitchen cabinets was enormous. The letters and advice that daily poured in to the chief were a populist input that Diefenbaker slavishly adhered to. Trudeau was no Diefenbaker; he was neither a populist nor a renegade. Trudeau was simply a man who brilliantly massaged and manipulated others so that his single will appeared to be the will of many, so that his will be always done. .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 , .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 .postImageUrl , .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 , .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1:hover , .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1:visited , .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1:active { border:0!important; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1:active , .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1 .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8decb24b3578781f61861ba8d80760a1:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Economics Supply And Demand EssayThe theme of my-way politics sheds much light on the vrai Trudeau, the Trudeau that is, rather than the Trudeau people think there is. Trudeau has never been the privacy-demanding recluse, the reluctant leader that herdsmen of Canadian journalism insist he is. Sport In College Essays - Nelle A. Coley, Pedagogy,

Sport In College Imagine yourself, if you can, strapping up a helmet before the big game, stretching your legs out before the 600 meter rely, or taking a few warm up swings before you step up into the batter's box. There are probably a lot of things going through that stubborn head of yours. Now imagine those same things with the thought of having to think of how you will make time to study for the big biology exam the following day. All right now you can quit imagining things. Thousands of student athletes have to deal with this day in and day out. I am just a regular college student here at Appalachian, but if things would have gone differently I would have had a place on the sideline in Carter Finely Stadium. That gave me a flaming desire to find out how much harder it is to study, have a social life, be an athlete, and be successful at all three. I interviewed someone whom I call a good friend, Arron Dobbings from Nebraska. He will be the starting full back for the Mountaineers in the up coming season. I want to find out precisely how much more difficult it is to be a successful college athlete, in comparison to being a regular college student like myself. During the planning stages of this interview, I was having thoughts of long bus rides to and from the sporting events, long rigorous practices, and obscene amounts of make up work to finish when you get home. I started to tell myself that I could probably go right ahead and write this paper without taking any valuable time out of my schedule to do the interview. As soon as that thought crossed through the mounded up cob webs in my forsaken mind, a saying that my dad preached to me came following behind, If some thing is not worth doing right, it is not worth doing at all. I am sure everyone has heard that one. Guess what? I picked up the phone and called Arron. We decided to meet at a well-known hub here in Boone called Mackadoo's at six o'clock on the following Monday. Right after we ordered our dinner I went ahead and started asking the questions that I thought would give me the answers that I was looking for. Why else would I have set up this interview? My first questions were getting to know you questions or "Ice Breaker" if you will. I asked Arron, "Is Appalachian the first institution that you have attended?" With that one little question I found out that my interviewee had attended a small college in Nebraska called Dana. His one year there was the worst one year of his life it seemed. If he had it his way he would never go anywhere close to that little institution again. He went ahead and answered a few of the follow up questions that I had, without me even asking them, such as telling me that he started his football college career at Dana and that Dana is a Christian-based college that really doesn't care about sports, just books. After that one fallen from favor year at Dana he transferred to Appalachian. At the close of this drawn-out semester he will have completed his first year here, and he will be craving for the next to begin. Next, I wanted to find out what kinds of restraints are placed on a college athlete's social life. Arron was pretty eager to tell me about this, as if he wanted me to ask him about it. He started by telling me, "You should know that; I always am telling you; No, I have to get up early in the morning, or I can't go eat dinner, I have film session at 5:00." He began to show me through his own words how much less time he has to devote to his friends because of his commitment to the title "College Athlete". As we moved on through the interview I now wanted to find out about the hindrances on his studies. Arron is majoring in criminal justice, and let me tell you, with this man's stature, I would not want to mess with him in a dark alley when he is angry. When I asked him, "How do you balance your time between your workouts and studies?" His answer to me was, "Time management plays a key role. I make time before I go to bed to write
